Paul Walbridge WICY SPORTS DIRECTOR

Paul John Walbridge was born June 18, 1960 in Malone, the son of the late Calvin and Elaine Walbridge and was one of a family of 10. Paul Graduated from Franklin Academy High School in June 1978. He was a three sport athlete lettering in Football, Indoor Track, Baseball and received a letter as varsity basketball manager during his 4-year Huskies career. He captained the Football and Baseball teams in his tenure. He attended Herkimer County Community College and graduated in 1983 with an A.A.S in Radio-TV broadcasting. Paul continued his education at SUNY-Plattsburgh and graduated in 1985 with a B.A. in Communications-Mass Media and a minor in history.

Paul has 27 years experience as a sports play-by-play announcer and began his career in radio broadcasting in the Fall of 1989 when he was tabbed “The Voice of the FA Huskies.”

Paul’s most memorable games that he has broadcast over the 27 years include the 1991 FA Hockey NY State Championship game in Utica, 1996 FA Girls Basketball NY State Semi-Final game in Troy, and his most coveted broadcast being his call of the FA Huskies Girls Basketball NY State Championship in 2008, which gave the Lady Huskies their first ever NY-State Class A Girls basketball championship. In 2008, he also had the extreme pleasure to broadcast his only NY State Federations Basketball game as the Lady Huskies almost beat perennial basketball power house Christ the King of New York City.

Paul is very active in the Malone community as a Malone town Councilor / Deputy Malone Town Supervisor for 12 years, a Charter Member and Inducted Member of the FA/SJA Athletic Hall of Fame, former board member of the Greater Malone YMCA which Paul helped start its inception. Paul is a 37 year veteran of the NY State Certified Baseball Umpires Association.
