Personally, there’s something romantic about sitting on the couch or in bed with your significant other and watching a movie. Especially if there’s a great love story within the film. Guys… don’t moan and groan, because there are plenty of great movies with romance you’ll appreciate and enjoy too. This list is in no particular order, they’re just movies you BOTH will enjoy if you decide to watch on Valentine’s Day, or any day to be honest.

  1. The Princess Bride – This Rob Reiner classic not only has a brilliant love story where a relationship is put to the test in ridiculous ways, but there’s action, comedy, great writing, and a cast of characters you’ll never forget. Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, and Andre the Giant lead an epic cast in a movie that starts out with a grandfather, played by Peter Falk, comforting his grandson, Fred Savage, by reading a story filled with yucky kissing and ends with the grandson asking him to read it again!
  2. When Harry Met Sally – Love is weird. Sometimes finding your true love can take a while EVEN if you’ve already met him/her. Harry and Sally meet on a road trip home from college, from Chicago to New York. After an interesting trip they part ways and meet again a few years later at an airport and share another interesting trip. A few years go by and they meet once again, become friends… then a little more than friends. Don’t worry guys I didn’t forget you… guys will enjoy this flick for some of the comedy, relatable characters, and a woman faking a orgasm in public just to make a point.
  3. Say Anything – Imagine being the most popular girl in school and you don’t know it. Everyone knows you and you have no clue. Your books and studies are all you’ve focused on for years sacrificing the teenage social scene. This leads to an opportunity of a lifetime to study in England. All of a sudden this great guy invites you to a graduation party. You go and everyone is so happy to see you and this great guy watches out for you all night. Not a bad start right? But… your dad has legal troubles and you think you have to choose between this amazing guy and England… don’t worry, it’s a happy ending. This movie has a great cast and the soundtrack will get stuck in your head, plus who doesn’t love a great party scene?
  4. Superbad – Before you all call me crazy just read on… 2 high schoolers, Evan and Seth, each like a different girl, neither thinks they have a chance, AND, its the summer before college so they’ve got one last shot to get their respective crushes to like them. Their opportunity comes as one of the girls is hosting a graduation party. Come on… how many of you remember how tough high school was? Thinking you’ve got one last shot to get your crush to like you is extremely relatable. High school can be a weird time for all of us romantically and socially. Rooting for these guys to each get the girl gets easier and easier. All they want is the summer romance they never had. Although the journey from beginning to end is absolutely insane, and pretty raunchy, there is enough romance and cliché to satisfy.

There are so many great movies to watch for Valentine’s Day. Whether you check out one of the four I’ve suggested or another great movie, I hope your day is filled with love, happiness, and chocolate (I almost suggested Willy Wonka, but that’s more of a day after VDay, you know, all the discounts on candy!).
